Built for People Who Didn't Plan on This
Accidental Landlord was created by a long-time rental property owner who spent years watching new landlords make the same preventable mistakes. Not because they were careless or unintelligent but because nobody had given them a straight answer about what being a landlord actually requires.
Most real estate content online is written for investors. People who actively choose to buy rental properties as part of a wealth-building strategy. That content assumes a baseline of knowledge and intent that accidental landlords simply do not have. If you inherited a house, moved and could not sell, or stumbled into a rental situation you did not expect, the typical real estate blog is not written for you.
This site is.
What We Cover
Every article on this site addresses the practical realities of owning and managing a rental property when you did not plan on it. We cover getting started, finding and screening tenants, managing the property, tracking your finances, understanding your legal obligations, choosing the right tools, and making the fundamental decision about whether to keep renting or sell.
We do not cover advanced investing strategies, commercial real estate, large portfolio management, or real estate syndication. Those are legitimate topics but they are not what an accidental landlord needs on day one. If you reach the point where those topics are relevant, you are no longer an accidental landlord — you are a real estate investor who chose this path. And there are plenty of resources for that stage.
What We Do Not Do
This site does not provide legal advice, tax advice, or financial planning. We provide general educational information based on experience and widely accepted industry practices. Your situation is unique and requires guidance from qualified professionals — an attorney who understands landlord-tenant law in your state, a CPA who understands rental property taxation, and an insurance agent who understands landlord coverage.
We do not sell products, collect lead information, or accept advertising. This site exists to provide useful information to people who need it. Nothing more.
